ALICE - point 2

Take a peak into the LHC tunnel and go inside the ALICE detector cavern to discover an experiment that is studying the first moments of the Universe and a mysterious state of matter known as the “quark-gluon plasma”.

Find out more about the ALICE experiment by taking part in activities for children and adults that include: building a model of the experiment out of cardboard or Lego, seeing a supermodel of one of the experiment's detectors, listening to the music of cosmic rays ("the cosmic piano"), and learning about the experiment's data-acquisition system.

Come and watch a short film about the ALICE experiment, see real particle-detector components, and find out about the methods and technologies that are used to detect and identify particles. Physicists will be on hand to answer any questions you might have.

Visit the LHC tunnel and go inside the ALICE experiment, which recreates and studies a state of matter that is thought to have existed in the first moments of the universe. Back from this underground visit, you'll be able to meet ALICE physicists and engineers and take part in a range of activities.
